Data sources

The forest trees data inserted in GnpIS are provided by different projects and networks:

  • GenTree (H2020, March 2016 – February 2020)

The goal of this project is to provide the European forestry sector with better knowledge, methods and tools for optimising the management and sustainable use of forest genetic resources (FGR) in Europe in the context of climate change and continuously evolving demands for forest products and services.

You can download a dataset from GnpIS following the steps explained in the README_GenTree.xlsx (24.68 kB) .

The list of all the sites is available in open access Gentree_Sites.csv (118.48 kB) .

  • GEN4X (previously named PlantaComp)

GEN4X is an INRAE (French National Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment) network for Forest genetics research.

Scientific activities in forest genetics cover a wide field of investigation, from describing natural populations and understanding the processes that cause them to evolve, to conserving and improving their genetic resources. These activities are based on an experimental point of view on a network of "common gardens", ranging from the arboretum to the clonal test and the improvement population.

  • Evoltree

Launched in April 2005, Evoltree is a network of excellence at the European scale. It stands for EVOLution of TREEs as drivers of terrestrial biodiversity.

  • GenOak (ANR, 2011 – 2015)

The aim of this project is to sequence the oak genome, then identify the genes that matter for forest tree adaptation.
