Arabidopsis thaliana has long been considered as the foremost model organism in plant biology . Its genome provides a strong platform for supporting integrative plant science. Indeed, this complete and accurate reference sequence provides a framework for exploiting sequence from promising high-throughput methods.

Arabidopsis thaliana was the first plant, and the third multicellular organism after Caenorhabditis elegans (The C. elegans Sequencing Consortium 1998) and Drosophila melanogaster (Adams et al. 2000), to be completely sequenced (The Arabidopsis Genome Initiative 2000). Arabidopsis genome sequence creates the potential for understanding plant development and environmental responses, and permits the structure and dynamics of plant genomes to be assessed and understood.

This species is an important focus of our genome dynamic research program. Many data from this research work is integrated in GnpIS. We work in close cooperation with TAIR (The Arabidopsis Information Resource) to share our repeat annotation and mirror their other annotations. As a repository for data from the genoplante program, we have integrated numbers of data from these projects.
