Description
Green tides in the Yellow Sea have occurred frequently every year from April to September for 13 consecutive years and they damaged the environment and ecosystem seriously. It is the largest green tide in the world, covering an area of 20,000-60,000 square kilometers with a cumulative area of 200-2,100 square kilometers. There were four kinds of floating Ulva macroalgae species at the start, but only Ulva prolifera left at last and floated from coastal waters of Jiangsu Province to Qingdao, Shangdong Province eventually. We have designated this species as Ulva prolifera subsp. qingdaoensis. The ultimate purpose of Ulva prolifera sequencing is to elucidate the molecular mechanism of the yellow sea green tide bloom through genome sequencing and genomics research.
