Description
Alkalinity stress is amongst the devastating abiotic stresses that significantly reduces the crop production. Lentils are amongst the moderately tolerant cold season crop that can be cultivated in Alkalinity affected areas. In present study, comparison at the transcript level was made between Alkalinity tolerant (PDL-1) and Alkalinity Sensitive (L-4076) cultivars under control and alkalinity stress condition (40mM of NaHCO 3 ). Significantly up-regulated differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were found to be involved in absicisic acid (ABA) signaling and secondary metabolites synthesis pathways. ABA responsive genes viz. dehydrin1 (DHN1), 9-cis- epoxycarotenoid dioxygenase (NCED1), ABA-responsive protein 18 (ABR18) and BEL1-like homeodomain protein 1 had log 2 fold change above 4.0. This will boast in developing breeding strategies, genetic manipulations or genomic editing interventions that will improve lentil production under alkaline conditions
