Description
Pitaya (Hylocereus undatus), a member of the genus Hylocereus (Cactaceae), is a perennial climbing cactus plant that is native to tropical areas of Mexico and Central and South America. Pitayas are rich in plant proteins, water soluble dietary fiber and other compounds that are beneficial to human health. Their flesh is sweet and white, with numerous tiny black seeds, and they are consumed fresh or are used for juices, jellies, marmalades, jams, wines, and other beverages.
