Description
Ailanthus excelsa Roxb. belonging to family Simaroubaceae is a multi-purpose tree species and the wood is extensively used for production of match splints. The wood transcriptome of a 22 months old tree was sequenced in Illumina HiSeq 2500 using 150 bp paired-end chemistry. De novo assembly predicted a total of 1,10,604 transcripts which clustered into 48,493 unigenes with N50 of 1,606 bp. Functional annotation, pathway analysis, transcription factor and microsatellite predictions were conducted using different computational pipelines. This is the first wood genomic resource in the genus Ailanthus and the information generated can be used for accelerated breeding in the species.
