Description
Hop (Humulus lupulus L. var Lupulus) is a diploid, dioecious plant valued for its use in brewing and traditional medicine. The hop genome is large, repetitive, and heterozygous, which challenged early attempts at sequencing with short-reads. Presented here is the long-read, haplotype-phased assembly of the hop cultivar Cascade. A haplotype-phased assembly allows for investigation of structural variation between haplotypes and improved resolution of gene copy variation. Sequencing was done with PacBio long-read sequencing, assembly was performed with FALCON, and phasing with FALCON-Unzip.
