Description
Sorghum halepense is an aggressive perennial grass, relying on robust rhizome systems to persist annually and reproduce quickly. This study aimed to map and analyze the gene expression within Johnsongrass rhizomes. mRNA was extracted from Johnson grass rhizome tissue and submitted for Next Generation Sequencing (NGS). The resulting RNA-sequence data was assembled de novo using the Trinity pipeline. TransDecoder was then used to identify 141,197 probable coding sequences from the assembled contigs. The predicted coding sequences were queried against the NCBI non-redundant protein database in a BLASTX search and annotated in the Blast2GO functional annotation suite.
