Description
Halophytes are remarkable plants that can tolerate extremely high-salinity conditions, even above 2000 mM, and constitute only 1% of the world’s flora. Most botanists believe that halophytes have different salinity tolerance mechanisms from those of glycophytic plants. In this work, we investigated the mechanisms of salinity tolerance of an extreme halophyte, Kochia sieversiana (Pall.) C. A. M, using RNA sequencing and physiological tests. We showed main mechanisms of salinity tolerance of K. sieversiana, and made some connections between RNAseq data and physiological results. Finally, we propose some possible genes involved in salinity tolerance of this halophyte, and partially explained why this halophyte show a higher growth rate at moderate salinity condition than at control condition.
