Description
Aquilaria malaccensis is highly valuable due to the agarwood that it produces which is a key commodity in the fragrance industry. The agarwood is formed within the tree during microbial infection or physical injury. The unique scent of agarwood is attributed to its high content of phenylethyl chromone derivatives and terpenes. Transcriptome profile of artificially-induced agarwood producing Aquilaria malaccensis was generated to elucidate the genes that are involved in the biosynthesis of terpenes and other fragrant constituents in its agarwood.
