Phyllody is a flower abnormality in which leaf-like structures replace flower organs in all whorls. Here we investigated the origin and the molecular mechanism of phyllody phenotype in Rosa chinensis cv. Viridiflora, an ancient naturally occurring Chinese mutant cultivar.
