Description
The main goal of this project is to perform a de novo sequencing of the genome of a plant belonging to the Elaeis oleifera Germplasm Bank maintained by Embrapa - Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation. This plant, from the Manicoré Family was collected in the Madeira River Region, in the State of Amazonas, Brazil. This project is coordinated by Embrapa Agroenergy, and intends to use only Next-Generation Sequencing Technology for the generation of raw DNA sequences, which will then be used for assembling the genome sequence. Besides assembling and generating drafts of the WGS of this plant species, this project further evaluate the date in order to generate a bank of molecular markers, characterization of the TEs and microsatellites, gene discovery and validation, etc. All the information generated from this project aims primarily to help the Oil Palm Breeding Program developed by Embrapa in the North Region of Brazil.
