Description
This study was designed to evaluate the transcriptomics profiles of Piper nigrum (black pepper), an economically important spice crop, when challenged with elicitors like flg22, glycol chitosan or an infection by the hemibiotrophic oomycete pathogen, Phytophthora capsici. Our approach was to create a comparative transcriptomics data set which correlates the innate immune responses of black pepper. Several previously described methods have been used to create this dataset. Excised leaves were inoculated with either mock or elicitor treatment, or the oomycete pathogen and small tissue samples only around the site of inoculation were collected for RNA sample preparations. RNA was sequenced on Illumina Hi-Seq 2000 paired-end reads and where used for the generation of a comparative transcriptome dataset for elucidating the innate immune responses of black pepper.
