Description
Urochondra setulosa is a rhizomatous perennial grass, 15–90 cm in height that grows in dune slacks, banks of salt-water creeks and saline flats. It is distributed in salt marsh regions of Greater rann of kutch, Gujarat. Urochondra setulosa due to its succulence and maintenance of low ash content in the leaves is found highly tolerant to salinity. Previous reports have noted that it could survive up to 1000 mM NaCl; a salinity concentration in which most of the halophytic grasses do not survive. The above characteristics make Urochondra a good candidate for mining abiotic stress tolerant genes
