Description
Amaranthus hypochondriacus is a C4 dicot species belonging to the order Caryophyllales and is known to produce lysine rich edible seeds. At IBAB, the north Karnataka (south India) variety of this species has been sequenced using Illumina GA IIx (paired end sequencing) to study the reasons underlying the high lysine trait of the species. The main objectives of the study include sequencing and annotating the genome and transcriptome of this species, and analysing the expression profile of the genes responsible for producing high lysine in the seeds.
