Description
We report the use of short-read sequencing technology (Illumina) to investigate changes in the C. korshinskii transcriptome in response to drought and salt stresses. By obtaining Three sequencing libraries prepared from control, drought-treated and salt-treated whole seedling plants of C. korshinskii, we generated 129,627 cDNA contigs, of which 54.51% were annotated with gene descriptions and the remaining 45.49% were unknown. 1,635 and 1,526 contigs showed significant differences in transcript abundance under drought and salt stresses. These genes were significantly enriched in 29 KEGG pathways and 60 GO terms in drought-treated samples and in 15 KEGG pathways and 63 GO terms in salt-treated samples. We find that genes related to transcription factors, protein kinases, and antioxidant enzymes are relevant to the tolerance of drought and salt stress in this species. Finally, we show 542 DEGs and 531 DEGs, respectively, were identified as being uniquely expressed in drought- or salt-stressed C. korshinskii samples compared to Arabidopsis, including contigs associated with glutathione peroxidase and K+-transport. These results facilitate the discovery of specific stress-resistance-related genes in C. korshinskii and contribute to understanding the molecular mechanisms of drought and salt resistance in C. korshinskii.
