Description
Palms (Arecaceae) are an ecological and economically important angiosperm family. Resolving relationships within the palms has been challenging due in part to slow rates of molecular evolution and rapid diversification events. Subfamily Arecoideae has been particularly challenging, especially deeper tribal relationships. In order to resolve theses within the Arecoideae a phylogenomic approach using targeted gene capture, with RNA baits, was used to generate sequence data for putative low copy nuclear genes (176 genes targeted) and ca. 110kb of the chloroplast for 25 palm species. The utility of the RNA baits designed by Heyduk et al. (2015) across the Arecaceae was also confirmed.
