Description
Little bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium) is a perennial bunchgrass that is native to North American prairies and woodlands from southern Canada to northern Mexico. Originally used as a grass for forage, little bluestem is now listed as a major native ornamental grass in the United States. Ion Torrent sequencing of a genomic library created from the cultivar The Blues was done to identify new SSR markers to assess genetic diversity among some popular cultivars and the USDA National Plant Germplasm System collection.
