• Description: Male sterility is essential for efficient F1 hybrid seed production. Male sterility type cv. 77B is a mutant with strong male sterility and was found among 77B strain maintained in the population. Although some male sterility strains are unstable sterility with mixed fertile flowers in the same individual, ms type cv. 77B is characterized in that all flower stamens have been lost. Histological analysis revealed that the anther of 77B ms mutant is abnormal in the early stages of development. We performed transcriptome analysis in the developmental process of anther to clarify the causative gene causing male sterility trait of ms type cv. 77B mutant.
