Description
Alnus hirsuta is a deciduous alder tree occurring in East Asia. It is found in lower and middle mountain slopes, as well as temperate forests along stream banks and in river valleys. One of the most dominant species composing a riparian forest community in Hokkaido island in Japan. Double-digest restriction-site associated DNA sequencing (ddRAD-seq) is a powerful and inexpensive approach to developing numerous single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers and genotyping. This ddRAD-seq project aims to quantify genetic variation in natural alder populations and to find genetic markers which is associated with biological interactions among alders, arthropods, and symbiotic bacteria.
