Description
This project aims to develop novel sets of nuclear genetic markers of a temperate evergreen herb species of Tanakaea radicans. The species has a wide distribution across South Japan and Southeast China, but the populations occur very sporadically with vast ranges of distribution gaps in East China. Within population levels, the populations show different levels of clonal reproduction; while Japanese populations frequently reproduce with stolons, Chinese populations seem to rely mostly on propagation from seeds. To reconstruct the population demography and clonal genetic structure of this species, genome sequencing of one Tanakaea individual was performed to obtain useful polymorphic genetic markers.
