Description
This project investigates expressed gene sequences associated DNA sequence variations in two Cupressaceae genera (Callitris and Libocedrus) that speciated in New Caledonia and adjacent regions, aiming to identify genomic regions associated with environmental adaptations. Data analysis will be performed to screen genomic regions, which have been exposed to natural selection during speciation process. Also, as our target species include many endangered conifers endemic to small ranges in New Caledonia, the obtained genetic information should be used for conduct conservation genetic research. Neutral markers will be developed from newly generated data in this project to genotype the remaining wild and ex situ populations to help prioritize conservation efforts.
